Save and share custom shapes

The Shapes palette in Pixelmator Pro is where you can add the shapes you customize or save the ones you create yourself. In the palette, you’ll find 40 different default shapes. Each shape is made up of paths instead of pixels which allows the shapes to be scaled up or down virtually infinitely without losing any quality.

Open the Shapes palette

Do one of the following:

  • Choose View > Show Shapes (from the View menu at the top of your screen).

  • In the Tools sidebar, click the Shape tool and choose Custom Shape.

The shapes in the Shapes palette can be rearranged (you can simply grab a shape and drop it where you want it), you can also remove or export them (just Control ⌃–click a shape for these options) from the palette as .shapes files to share with others.

To share your shapes or vector designs across different image editing apps, you can also export them to the SVG file format.

Save a custom shape
  1. If the Shapes palette is hidden, show it by choosing View > Show Shapes (from the View menu at the top of your screen).
  2. Then do one of the following:

Reset the Shapes palette to default

Resetting the Shapes palette to default removes any custom shapes and returns all the default shapes that come with Pixelmator Pro.

  • In the Shapes palette, Control ⌃–click a shape, hold down the Option ⌥ key, and choose Reset Shapes. If the Shapes palette isn’t visible, choose View > Show Shapes (from the View menu at the top of your screen).
