At one point I was using circular text to write around a circular object. Now... I have no idea how I did it. I can write the text and it is a circle. I can shirk text to fit. What I can't do is adjust the circle so that is fits around the object.
Can anyone point me to the correct way to do this?

You were using, and want the green arrow text selection; somehow you started new text with the Red arrow selection.
When you first got the circle you could have used escape to stop. Now see if you have two text layers. If you do delete the circle text and resume the regular - green arrow - selection. If you only have the circle - red arrow - copy the text portion and start over with a new green arrow to your original shape. There are also keyboard shortcuts -
