Is Pixelmator quietly kind of an unusable mess? Between this and the inability to apply multiple masks intuitively to a single layer.....sheesh guys!

Yeah, I had to throw some contrast to remove sharpen artifacts - I'm sure it could have looked better on your effects info with the real pxd.

The Threshold Effect is ineffective in the example you provided, as it influences color rather than transparency. This is also true for the Sharpen Effect.
