Problem running new Pixelmator Pro - trial worked fine!

I've also sent this inquiry to Pixelmator support but wondering if anyone here might be able to help... I did the one week free trial of Pixelmator Pro and everything worked great but now that I've purchased the program, I'm having constant issues with it freezing up. I can't even manage to do one little brush stroke without invoking the wheel of death.


Is there something I can do to trim down the software so it's not choking up all the time? I'm guessing there must be something in the full version that was not in the trial version that is causing extra processing issues. I would be just fine running the trial version only - that had everything I needed and worked great.

I'm running BigSur 11.7.8 on a mid-2014 MacBook Pro with 2.8 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5 and 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3.

Any help or suggestions anyone has would be very much appreciated (short of telling me to buy a new computer haha - that is not in the cards for me right now).
