Canvas Size
2020-11-24 09:16:04
1) Open an original jpg image ( ex 600x400px ) from the desktop
2) Crop and set the file size to 1800x1200px
3) Export the file to the desktop (myImage1.jpg)
Now I have a working copy for my homepage
Now I want the same image for Instagram
4) Adjust the Canvas size to 1900x1900px (to get a 1:1 pict)
5) Here it fails
6) Export as "mysqareimage.jpg"
Workaround:
When Exporting "myImage1.jpg (1) after that close the editor window and then load the "myimage1.jpg" again and then the Adjust Canvas works
2) Crop and set the file size to 1800x1200px
3) Export the file to the desktop (myImage1.jpg)

Hey there, I wasn't able to reproduce this – could you maybe email us a screen recording of the issues at support@pixelmator.com? That should help us get to the bottom more easily. Thanks in advance!

Did you Export "mysqareimage.jpg" and take a look how it looks?

Yes, the image is 1:1 but there is no white border around only top and bottom

It is the same problems in this case:
1) Open and jeep file landscape format
2) Open the crop tool and make square file
3) Set file size 1600x1600px
4) Set the Canvas Size to 1700x1700
5) Save the file and check it, the is no white border around it only top and bottom (in just my case)

This works!
1) Open a jpeg file
2) Set file size
3) Set Canvas size
4) Export and check
That means it is problem when I use the Crop tool, then I need to close the file and reopen it to set the Canvas size

Interesting, I'm a little confused about this part in particular:
There's no file size option, so I'm not sure how to try reproducing this particular step... We have Image Size (Image > Image Size), Canvas Size (Image > Canvas Size) and you can also set the canvas size using the Crop tool, though the end result should be pretty much the same as using the Canvas Size command. But if you could share your exact steps (including what you click and how you enter values), that might help.

Here is simple steeps to get it
1) I open an jpeg image 6000x4000px
2) Press the button [C] for the Crop Tool
3) Change from custom size to square and then Apply
4) From the Pixelmator Pro Main Menu I choose Image size
5) Set the image size to 1600px x 1600px and then OK
6) From the Pixelmator Pro Main Menu I choose Canvas size
7) Set the canvas size to 1700x1700 and OK
9) Already now you see there is only a frame at the top and bottom in the Pixelmator editor window (also see my picture)
My workaround is to export the jpeg file to the desktop just after steep (5) and then reopen it and continue with steep (6)

Also tested an another workaround
After using the Crop tool, export the file and reopen it. Now change the file size and set the canvas size. This works!

Hi there,
That helped me too. I had being going round in circles trying to put a border around a cropped image.
