All pictures i open get a grey view

Hi, really sorry, this is my first day on pixelmator.
All picture file i open now i got some kind off chess grey and white view.
Even if i close the picture and open it with finder (not in pixelmator) i god a grey rectangle then and lost the image.
I have same thing even with new file i open for the first time in Pixelmator.
What did i do wrong?

You can adjust how Pixelmator Pro starts a fresh image at its Preferences.
In your case it´s not "grey" but "transparent":
