Hello guys, I'm a little overwhelmed and YouTube couldn't help me. Since I'm not a photo edit professional, I seek for your help. How do I make a text transparent? See example. Image

Hey! Have you had the chance to check out our latest tutorial on working with layer masks? I think it should help here. In the video, you can skip to the section about clipping masks at 5:54 (Creating a clipping mask).

Thanks Aurelia.

Understood. But in my instance I'd like to set up a foreground layer used in Final Cut Pro, which has the punched out text, so the actual "movie" shines through. Since it's a movie, I can't work with a clipping mask, can I?

Hi Dirk.
Would this set up work in FCP?

I converted text into shape and subtract from a rectangle.

Hello Ellen,
dunno, I cannot replicate your actions.
1. Create a Rectangle (e.g.)
2. Put a text on top of it
3. convert Text into shape
4. use Style tool to adjust filling - choose subtract

All that happens is the text changing colors. I pretty sure, I did a mistake along the way

No it´s not a style. Go with both elements selected Format->Shape->Subtract Shapes. It´s an Boolean operation on real geometry so to speak.

Still not sure about FCP needs in this regards.
