Awesome! Keep up the great work!
Clément
Hello,
what’s about a no-destructive effect layer, in Pixelmator (like acorn or Photoshop). it’s will be perfect.
Rob
Any hints at other new features or enhancements… and a release date?
Andrew
Wow the new orphan maker tech is very impressive.
Seriously good stuff guys keep it up!

It is not showing 14.99
joe
Yes, I can confirm that it has not been fixed and today the price being shown is stil $29.99 and not the claimed $14.99!
Daniel
Wow – this honestly looks too good to be true. I hope the tool works even 70% as well in real life as it does in the demo video!
Christiaankz
When is SVG support coming. That would-be awesome.
Ausra
Hey! The price should be $14.99 anytime now.
Martin
What about Layer-Lock? Or scroll past Edges? Or non-destructive Layereffects? Come-on guys, can’t be to hard… I know this is nothing to brag about, but these are essentials.
vhalik
It is now 14.99
Austin
Awesome job guys!
Mike
There’s reference to dust removal. I would love to see a “one touch” dust and scratch removal similar to the old Polaroid filter. See http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/photoshop/polaroid-dust-filter.htm
This would permit me to quickly clean up old slide scans without needing to use a healing brush.
Cornelis van der Bent
Wow, that’s friggin amazing. Proud to be a Pixelmator mate.

Miikka
Darn it… I just bought it for full price a week ago! It’s worth twice the price and then some so I’d urge everyone to get the app like right now! Fantastic!
Any chance the update to 3.2 is free? 🙂
Ausra
@Mikka: Yes, Pixelmator 3.2 update will be free.
Griffin
HHAHA At first I thought they were just taking out the husband from the family picture.
Jan Macon
Looks good. Can’t wait to see it! Then again, I’m still waiting to see ANYTHING in Pixelmator. Stupid black-on-black interface.
Montychristo86
Kudos to you guys for creating an image editor that rivals Photoshop in functionality but yet is easy and fun to use. Adobe apparently forgot out the easy and fun part a while back. I am very excited with each and every release, and I cannot wait to see what you guys come up with next. m/ ROCK ON! m/
Greg
This looks awesome! Of course, I’m still holding out hope for vector PDF export in Vectormator mode, instead of just rasterized images saved in a PDF container, but this is still some impressive work nonetheless!
Dorako
Pixelmator is great, I just wish it had better integration with touch gestures (rotation, translation, zoom) and pen tablets.
Ted Wood
Pixelmator – how can you price yourself so low? $15???? $30???? Does this just go to show the world that companies like Adobe and Microsoft have been overcharging for software for years? I’m extremely impressed with the quality of Pixelmator. True Mac standard.
Mark D
Did anybody else notice that it put a new rock behind the guy that was removed? WHAT BLACK MAGIC IS THIS???

Nacho
@Mark D, yes I realized too. That makes me doubt that the example in the video is a true real-life one, it looks more like a mock-up to me, where they added the 2 parents in an additional layer and then removed then. Maybe I’m wrong, but that new rock is VERY strange…
Dan Turner
If the repair tool is THAT good, it will be truly revolutionary. It almost feels like an April Fool’s joke. I will be surprised if it actually works that well. I’m sure it is very good, but probably not that good lol.
JM
Looks good. I just might have to buy this version. Pixelmator desperately needs the option to have an application frame. Application frames make it much easier to focus on the task at hand.
Pixelmator also needs the ability to adjust the clone tool – brush size, shape and angle. (Similar to Paint Shop Pro).
Alan Aurmont
Please give us the true lens blur option.
Mike
Application Frame / SVG Export / Layer Locking… and you have yourself a winner!
Happy costumer
Application frame with grey interface, please! i beg you, listen to your costumers.
your app can look even better if it won’t look like a collection of widgets.
Those updates are non-relevant until we’ll have an interface we can actually work with.
And in the end it will be annoying to hear about those updates as it’s annoying right now to hear about the new option to add trees in Photoshop CC.
PLEASE.
Jan
I would wonder if you can add something like actions in Photoshop. This is very important for the workflow and it will inspirit me to buy your application.
Andy
Happy costumer
I think the UI is fine…at least for me… I understand you might like it lighter (as some other)..but to say that the update are non relevant till they change a color….well is a bit too much….
May be an option …light / dark ui will please all….but:

Kyle
Thanks for providing a great product that’s a low cost alternative to those of us who cannot afford cumbersome Adobe products.
Zaphodz
Good to hear the momentum is still going. An improved repair tool is nice as the current one is a bit quirky, but, non-destructive adjustment layers for curves etc. are the biggest want for Pixelmator now, and an option for a lighter mid-grey UI. Features that make frequency separation easier with Pixelmator would be nice too 🙂
Wheybarr
Yeah, a lighter interface with a unified window would be my favorite feature right now.
Pixelmator is of great quality but I always end up going back to Photoshop. Can’t do anything with this app, the interface is dramatically problematic.
Wheybarr
Found this discussion very interesting regarding the dark interface :

It’s sad that you have to subscribe to post in this forum, because a lot of people like me are lazy and would gladly add their voices to that topic.
We’ll see what the Px Team is up to……
Happy costumer
Me again.
i still think that anything else is irrelevant right now, the UI is everything around your image, as long as it’s hard
to look at or even to work in such non-neutral environment, i can’t see any value in adding those new features, i just
have to stick with photoshop for now.
your costumers are your costumers, not apple marketing team.
seeing an update (the last one) only for the mac pro, which i’m not sure how many users of
pixelmator even have a mac pro machine, feels like the company is doing things just for the sake of being featured by apple.
i’m sure that a lot of professionals will consider pixelmator because it’s actually a good product that gives a proper response to photoshop. not because it works good with computers that most of us don’t have.
the only explaination that sounds reasonable to me – is that pixelmator is not meant for professional use,
and in this case i still feel weird about investing in the mac pro, i hope this is planned and delayed because of design problem.
Thank you.
Evan
While it’s true that Pixelmator does not have all of the functions that Photoshop offers I say this is not a problem. As a photographer, web and graphic designer I find that Pixelmator is more then suitable for just about any task I can throw at it and for those tasks I cannot preform in Pixelmator well then I rethink what it is that I am trying to achieve and develop an appropriate work around.
Non destructive layers would be fantastic but not having them is not going to stop me form using this amazing software. Look forward to Sandstone, keep up the good work!
Paul
Pixelmator is turning into a nice editor. Now we just need 48 bit file support (16 bit per pixel).
Best money spent on software in years. Can’t wait for 16 bit support for other than 2014 Mac Pro.
Then Pixelmator will meet the needs of SLR RAW shooters developing images. SLR RAW images are 42 bit.
Great progress on Pixelmator.
Rob
This is an exciting update. I look forward to it. I hope that we won’t have to wait too much longer though for non-destructive editing.
Gordon
You guys do an amazing job, keep up the good work and don’t let whiney people get in your way.
Julie Maxwell
This looks Great! can’t wait for it!!
another suggestion I have – iPad app please 😀
Tamlyn
Guys! If you want Application Frame – just use fullscreen mode 🙂
Rob
@Tamlyn It’s not the same thing. Not even close.
And
Just found out about the disappeared bump layer blending mode thing. As cool as this repair tool is, I’m looking forward to when I can make a decent relief map in Pixelmator.
Justin
Oh my gosh this looks AMAZING! I’ve been a PixelMator user for years and am continually impressed with the application. In fact at my boutique digital agency, PixelHouse, we exclusively use Pixelmator for our layer-based image editing. Keep up the good work!
loren
Wow! Can’t wait to try it!
Chris
When will this update be pushed out? I’m having the image orientation/rotation issue when exporting and no matter what I do, the orientation is exported incorrectly.
Gabriel
First thing first, awesome new feature!
I guess there is a split target audience for Pixelmator: Ameuter/Beginner who want more one click feature/filter, and semi pro/current photoshop user who want more precise and custom control in existing tool (e.g separate RGB control in level, non-destructive layer, layer lock…)
I guess your target is the first one, but that doesn’t hurt adding support for second group of TA. 🙂 There is definitely A LOT more you can do with Pixelmator with current tool, but adding more custom control.
Gabriel
Hi again.
I just checked Photoshop CS6 on my office computer and see exactly what function do i use for practically everything from making in house poster, banner, web pages, powerpoint template, fixing photos… etc
Rulers
Marquee Tool
Lasso/Magic Wand tool for quick select
Eyedrop for select color
Spot Healing/Patch – clean up photo
Brush/Pencil
Cropping – photo
Clone – clean up photo
Eraser
Gradient
Dodge and burn
Pen tool for detail selection
Text tool
Different shapes drawing tool
Different text options from size, leading, Faux bold and align tools
Quick mask mode
Non-destrucive layer
Layer Styles! – Stroke, Drop Shadow, Bevel, Inner Shadow, Inner Glow, Color Overlay, Gradient Overlay, Outer Grow
Also with smart layer to do a combo with different styles
Mask by channels
Level with RGB control
Color Balance
(Advanced) Black and White
Shadow and highlights
Lens correction (to keep it horizontal and vertical balance)
Liquify
Vanishing Point (to key something in perspective)
Unsharp mask
High pass filter with layer mask for custom sharpen
Gaussian Blur
Photo merge
Batch process photos for resize
Like I said in my previous post, Pixelmator pretty much got all the tools for modern day office use ( i don’t claim myself as “Designer”, but hey pretty much my daily work related to visual, and I know I am not alone in this era), all it needs is precise and repeatable control in these tools. I am sure lots of people could build amazing things just with these tools.
The Questioner
Hi guys!
Do you guys know around when this update will be released? Also, would it be possible to allow beta testers in on the betas to test and provide feedback before the official release?
Thanks!
Ausra
@Gabriel, thanks for the feedback and suggestions!
@The Questioner, email us at support@pixelmator.com.
von bravo
Where’s layer locking? It’s absolutely necessary as a feature, and yet, you guys just wont add it. I’m confused by that.
Charles Bush
No word on 16 bit support for the new release, which is disappointing. Yesterday Creative Cloud was down for 24 plus hours. If you had 16 bit support I’d bet you would have had a lot of buyers. You have a very small window to eat into Adobe’s sales of photoshop, it really should be a top priority. If you had 16 bit support you’d be a viable alternative, I’d love to drop my Adobe subscription.
Air
First of it’s great to see improvements.
I would really love a more simple way of making “Rainbow Coloured Text” without going into
gradients etc to do this.
What I’m looking for is (add text, transform to pixel or shape? Then add fill “Rainbow”).
We would be able to control the varying colours, transparence & gradient.
I was using my Wacom Pro switching between Sketchbook Pro & Pixelmator, this also caused
some confusion on my part since they work very differently.
Needlessly to say trying to do this in ether programme was not even simple or quick?
Jake Jones
Pixelmator needs Layer-Locking. Pixelmator is a nightmare without it. How can something so essential be left out? Also, 16 bit support only for 2014 Mac Pro is a complete and utter dick move on the developers part. Offer such a feature for everyone who bought the application or don’t offer it at all.
Hopefully this updated will sort all the above out, but we’ll see….
Marcus
Exciting new option, however with regards to the foto that is used in the video. One would still need to open PSE12 using Content Aware, select the little boy and move him closer to his sibling. This would center and complete the image. I hope the Pixelmator Team will include Content Aware soon in Pixelmator.
Rogerio
What did happen to the price?
The post says it will be 14.99 until 3.2 is released, right?
As far as I know, it is not released, and the price now is 29.99…
I was about to buy it today…
Matt
Is it not released yet, really? 🙂
Jon
Guys I think you are a little optimistic with that repair tool. I tried it on several photos including taking a screenshot of the photo you used in the demo and looks horrible every time.
Steven
I came by to say how great I think the new healing tool is – and then read the comment above. Honestly, I’ve just done some corrections with it that have saved me a lot of time where the old (3.1) healing tool failed miserably. I’m sure the results depend a lot on the original material but for me it is a huge improvement – one of many 3.2.
Thanks 🙂
Nora
I am a big fan of Pixelmator and have been using it for years now! But after this last update I experience a lot of lag on my computer. I use a late 2013 iMac i7. Even when I use the relatively simple Clobe Stamp, my compyter cannot keep up and I need to wait till it has processed all the actions. I have not had this experience before. There are no other programs running, but when I use the Clone Stamp system CPU usage goes up to 45%, and user CPU goes up to 10%. It really makes it impossible to get some work done with this lag.
Does anybody have a similar experience? Does anybody know what I might do about it.
Ausra
@Nora, could you email us the details at bugs@pixelmator.com? We’d like to find what causes the problem and see how we can help you.
Marcus
So I’ve tried the new Repair Tool hundreds of times. Unfortunately, it does work as well as in the video. Anytime I do a repair near hair (like in the video) or near someone’s skin (like in the video) I get smudging and distortion . Not a complete loss, the repair tool has improved but not even close to what the video shows. I tend to agree with the comments above, Nacho & Mark D. “where they added the 2 parents in an additional layer and then removed them.” Overall, I still love this app and use it daily.
