Recently I came across this image and I would love to create one. Can this be done in pixelmator pro? English isn't my primary language so I am not sure what this kind of technique or style is called in english.

This technique is often referred to as a "knockout text" effect, and can definitely be achieved with Pixelmator Pro. In fact, we have a tutorial about it! You can watch it here.
