Equivalent to Ps "Smart Object"

While following/adapting a simple Ps tutorial and trying to do essentially the same thing in Pixelmator Pro, I ground to a halt on an instruction to "convert the image into a Smart Object." I don't see anything by that name in PP. Does a different command or object have equivalent functionailty?

Hey Jimbo724. Could you link me to the tutorial in question? Pixelmator Pro supports nondestructive resizing, adjustments, and effects by default which are a few of the main functions offered by Adobe's Smart Object functionality. So you just may be able to skip that step.

What works quite well is to make a group for each new adjustments.
Selecting a group will lead to the effects/tools used adjustments.
I didn´t add the coloring proces which seems quite straight forward:
