I understand that the Apple script support in 1.8 would give developers more options but what exactly do you hope for to see our what potential does it have?

It opens up possibilities for creating certain utilities (like an automatic way to create luminosity masks) or effects (for example, the "Groovy" text effect we talked about in the blog post), both of which are pretty cool. Mostly, it's mean to speed up complex tasks made up of a large number of specific steps or working with a large number of images. It's kind of like Automator, but much more extensive and customizable.
