The Quick Selection Tool analyzes both colors and textures for advanced edge detection. So even if two objects next to each other are exactly the same color, you can select each one separately with ease.
The Quick Selection Tool is direction aware. As soon as you start a selection, it finds the outline of the object you’re selecting. As you select more, the selection moves in the direction that you paint, snapping to the object’s edges.
Thanks to Smart Borders, your selection lines up perfectly with the nearest edge of the object you’re selecting — even if you move the selection brush slightly outside it.
A specially designed algorithm smooths the outline of your selection. With naturally smooth edges, your selection will blend in perfectly with the rest of the image if you apply any effects, or copy it to another background.
A handy live preview of your selection is shown when you hover over an area in your image — even before you start selecting.
As you place selection anchors to guide your selection, the Magnetic Selection Tool snaps them perfectly to the object’s edges.
The Magnetic Selection Tool uses A* pathfinding to find the most accurate outline for almost any object — the same algorithm is often used to create optimal navigation algorithms in video games.
Start a selection using the Magnetic Selection Tool and finish it off using the Free or Polygonal Selection tools. Just hold down the Option key and click to select a straight edge, or draw to make a freehand selection. Once you let go of the Option key, you’ll switch back to the Magnetic Selection tool.
The Select Color tool includes a clever algorithm that gently smooths the selection outline. So your selection blends in much more naturally whenever you apply any effects or copy it to another image.
Make quick edits to your selection while using Refine Selection. Simply paint over an area to select or deselect it.
As soon as you turn on Smart Refine, a sophisticated edge-detection algorithm instantly detects object edges in your image and automatically refines the selection outline for you.
Content-aware edge detection is always active as long as Smart Refine is on. So when you change the size, softness, or roundness of your selection, it will carry on snapping to the object’s edges.
