I wonder if anyone knows how to create a weave effect to create a fabric-like texture.

There are enough fabric images out on the web that there is little need, in my opinion, to create one manually.

What are you trying to accomplish with a homemade fabric creation, a few more detals would be helpful.

Hello! Thanks for your help. Yesterday I was playing around with my photo of my me-made sampler quilt which had a raw edge. I want to to put a binding around it, so I used Pixelmator to imitate how a binding colour would look. I thought it would have been nice to make the colour have a weave effect. (Other times I create sample images of clothing on a silhouette.)

i simulated a border by creating a rectangle shape. Duplicated it and shrank it a bit then centered both. Then I subtracted the top, smaller shape to create a type of border. Then, in the style menu, I filled it with a greyish piece of a fabric (swatch) image. The results are below. That could be tinted/colored to match your desired color. Easy to add another dashed line stroked shape to simulate the binding stitching:
