I'm afraid I'm not very familiar or very educated on all this... but I'll try to explain my situation.
I uploaded a bunch of photos from my Nikon into Photos. However, when I open Photolmator to work on a few, it seems to open the thumbnail preview and I'm not sure why. I just get a pixelated image. And it's not for all of them either.
But I'm not sure how to get my images to open full size.
We have some important news to share: the Pixelmator Team plans to join Apple. If you need product support please contact us here.

Did you check if your camera is supported ny Apple Photos RAW engine ? You can find a web page listing them if you google that topic, I am quite sure Photomator also have a link to it. I let you search for it. The bottomline is not all cameras are supported, especially very recent ones, and also some format might not be i.e. compress raw vs normal raw, etc. Best is to check this first. Also Photomator added support for some cameras that Apple does not support so you may check that list as well,

Yes apple does support it. I checked at the time I bought the camera. It's a Nikon Z30.
I'll check Photomator's list as well.
