I typically do not use Pixelmator Pro to do anything complicated, so I am behind the proverbial 8-ball.

I am trying to copy a rectangular are of an image into a new layer. I activate the rectangular selection tool and drag to create a rectangular area that I assume I am selecting. I then right click and select Copy and Paste as Layer and I get the Mac error sound and nothing else happens. If I try copying same thing, duplicating same thing.

Anyone have any thoughts as to why this is happening?

Sorry you never got a response to this, so long ago. You probably already figured out one way or another how to do what you want. But in case you didn't... [ Pixelmator Pro Version 3.6.4 (Archipelago) ]

I don't use right mouse clicks; I simply select the area I want to copy on the layer I want to copy from, then ⌘c to copy and ⌘v to paste to a new layer of the copied material. (before I ⌘v I often change to a different layer that I want to place the new layer above.)

I don't know why you got the error sound you heard - it worked fine for me. i'm sure yu figured it out.
