Creating seamless repeat from uploaded image

I'm a studio artist (paint, printmaking etc) and I'm trying to find a tutorial or instructions to make a repeat from an existing image (a print on paper in this case). I can find instructions for designs that use online patterns or drawing in the program, but that's not what I want to do. I make the image with paint and and hands.
