Any ideas for how to create a textured gradient? (See example)

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm trying to create an image with a grainy, textured color gradient (like the one attached). I tried making a gradient, then adding a new layer over it with a grainy texture and messing with the blending options. This sort of worked, but I have a feeling there's a much better way to do this. I also tried adding grain and noise effects to the gradient layer, but that didn't look good at all. Does anyone have any other ideas?
