This was the best I could do. I thought I had accomplished the bend with twirl similar to yours with a straight Knob. I limited my twirl effect to the upper portion of the bat by a rectangular selection of all but the knob. But when I tried to duplicate it, for publishing here, I couldn't get the twirl right. But here is what I finally came up with - defective, but maybe it gives you an idea.
