At some point recently, PPro decided that Overlays needed to be on every time I started the program. Which means every time I start the program, I have to turn off Overlays. And I cannot find any setting to change that.

I don't want Overlays on all the freaking time.

How do I fix this? And please, don't add more "helpful" features like this.

Mmmh - at least a shortcut shift/cmd/H is available to toggle that on and off. And you can oppress with cmd key down while translating objects.
Otherwise how would you align things without visual reference? Just curious.

i've done quite well turning on overlays when needed for years. it's not necessary 100% of the times; it's horribly distracting. if all i'm doing is a quick crop, adding a text box (which comes in aligned with the horizon anyway), or such, overlays are not even needed.

apps that decide your work space for you do not make for happy users.

Maybe disable View->Smart Guides->Show Guides at Object Center + Show Guides at Object Edges will help then.

100% this.
When I need the overlays, they're quick to get, but there's no reason whatsoever for them to be on by default; it's obnoxious and I'm unable to understand how or why Pixelmator found it wise to change this behaviour.

This x1000!
An annoying feature with an otherwise brilliant app!

Please allow us the choice of start up!!!

View>Overlays>Grid - uncheck this.

Use Views > Overlays > uncheck Grid

Go to SETTINGS -> RULERS and then set the number of centimeters to a ridiculous distance.
Like mine, 1000 centimeters, and voila, lines are gone!

I'm with the others. I hate having these automatically appear. While your solution is a solution the best option would be just not to have to deal with it. If someone wants this to occur then they should have to opt into this.

Come on Pixelmator team. You usually, and I mean 99.9999% are awesome. Fix this stupid "feature"

I was able to turn off the overlay by unchecking BOTH View -> Show Overlay, AND View -> Overlays -> Grid. Once you uncheck the latter, it will stay off on the next program restart.

Unfortunately, Pixelmator remembers only View -> Overlays -> Grid checkmark, and View -> Show Overlay always returns to checked (on) next time you start; no matter what.

This has been aggravating me and sort of a time waster to turn them off for every single image individually. Hopefully, these suggests end up working for me too.
