It is not possible to reduce the size of toolbars and layers.
Affinity has much more free space.

Have you already tried different "Workspace Layouts" especially "Painting"?

Yeap
I tried different options, including creating my own schemes. But the only way is to hide the panels using hotkeys, which is also inconvenient.

How to move the "layers" upper or under the "color adjustments"?

Nah we're at the mercy of the developers and their view on how the product should be depicted on our screens. I guess it's truly developed with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil in mind. I wonder how much money Apple has invested in Pixelmator? Because it seems there are lots of things the Pixlemator team could do, but do not do. Is it because they're being held back by bigger wallets?

The more independent companies like Skylum (Luminar Neo) seem to have updates more often. And they show you that they have plans coming in the near future. Granted, their app has its flaws as well. But their tools are a bit more user-friendly and get the job done quickly.

I just like the end result of some images more on Pixelmator.

If this team could produce more Photography related tools that allow you to work quick and smooth, it would be prefect in my eyes. People no longer want to work for hours on end to get great results out of an image. We want to get through them quickly so that we can go shooting again.

I just can try to simulate a 13" monitor at 2550x1440 on my external display as I´m on a MacMini - but it looks to like plenty of space. Have you any display scaling applied? Additionally you can dock the tool palette to top or bottom of the window:

It looks much better if I have "More space" mode 1680x1050 (default 1440x900 for 13")
But at the same time, I have to use a microscope to read the text of the interface 🤦🏻

Understood - I used scaled mode on my 32" display for the same reason.
