Hello,

I was wanting to edit the depth map of Portrait picture taken on an iPhone as described here: https://www.dpreview.com/news/774802679 ... trait-mode and here: https://blog.lookingglassfactory.com/ex ... c480d52c2a.

When I open a Portrait picture Pro I do see a background layer but when I view the background layer it's just transparent. Is there anyway to edit the depth image in Pixelmator without having to first extract it with ExifTool?

Thank you,

Hi Adam
I have the same question. Did you ever work this out ? Seems strange that it can read but not extract it. I would like to use the depth map to place it in the "Displacement map" feature which is able to import the depth map and make a 3d movable picture by adjusting amount slider. I too have to use the ExifTool just to do this.

Hello Brendon,

I never did figure out a good way to edit the depth map.

Though, in looking at PixeImator Pro now you can edit the mask by selecting the check box next to the mask and then right clicking on the mask and selecting "Refine Mask". Then change the "Overlay" to "Black & White". You will now see some grey in the picture. From looking at this: https://help.pixelmator.com/pixelmator-pro/2.4/#679 in the "Edit a layer mask" section it talks about the mask being transparent and opaque. But in our case this is the depth information. I suspect from here you can edit the mask and it will change the depth information. I haven't tried it yet though.

At the very least, you should be able to use the Depth Map as the image for the Distortion effect. I can actually drag it on top and it shows a plus sign, but when I drop it it doesn't appear.
