Hi Gary.
To save a selection I think need to save it as something else. You can convert the selection to a shape. You can fill it to preserve the shape for later.
My favourite is to convert it to a mask (it will even preserve any feathered edges). To do this:
1. Create a new layer.
2. Right-click on the layer and select Add Mask. A mask will be created on the layer with opacity corresponding to the selection.
You can now delelect, knowing that your selection is saved for later as a mask.
To get your selection back later, command-click on the mask. Your selection will be restored.
