Currently, there's a deactivated Zoom and Gaussian added to each layer.
I'd love to be able to choose which effects appear by default — and what their values are.

Customizing the default list is already available. You should look for the Save as Default option at the very bottom of the Add Effects pop-up menu.
Unfortunately, saving custom values for different effects is not available yet, but we are working on it.

The original Pixelmator has Drop Shadow and Emboss effects. The Pro version is missing these. I have used these effects a lot in Pixelmator, why were they dropped in the PRO version.
