Photomator and PXD files

Hello!
I'm looking for an application where I can handle pictures taken in Pixelmator Pro similarly to Lightroom. At first I took out the photomator. Is
Photomator not knowing the Pixelmator Pro format? This is incredible to me. Am I doing something wrong?

Pixelmator pro does not take pictures. It edits them. And it does lots of things photomator does not support. However you could export from Pixelmator in another format that photomator can read. Your edits will be baked in.

I don't exactly understand the explanation that "Pixelmator does not picture". It would be great if PXD files could also be handled in Photomator, because, for example, macOS FInder also recognizes that PDX is the image and displays it. Couldn't Photomator do that? That would be great.
