File size increase on saving

Hi,
Quick question re file saving. I open files in Pixelmator directly from Photo mechanic. Generally they're jpgs around 1.5-2mb.
I might make some contrast adjustments, bring up shadows, or bring hoghlights down, or a curves adjustment. No cropping.
Then I hit command and w to save the file in the folder it's been opened from.
When I go back to the files i've adjusted the file size is always bigger. Not by massive amounts, but I wondered why this was.

Any suggestions gratefully received.
