How to turn off iCloud saving/synching

I have Pixelmator Pro 3.3.2 running on an iMac, Ventura 13.3.1.

I don't want Pixelmator saving or synching or iCloud. I don't use it on my iPad, just on the iMac. I only want the files saved locally - it's of no use to me to have them on iCloud, and it's just annoying whenever I save anything, it defaults to iCloud. Mostly it wants to save everything to iCloud, which is the opposite of what I want!

How do I turn this off, permanently? I can see Pixelmator as an app that uses iCloud in the iCloud system settings, but it won't allow me to turn it off!
