Select and move text in an image

Is it possible to select part of an image that contains text and move it to another part of the image? I have not been able to do it successfully.

If everything happens on a single layer, you have to do a lot of work: select the text, copy+paste it to create a new layer. Erase the text from the image layer. Move text to new location.
