I'd like to have a floating window with the preview of my canvas, so that if I zoom in while I'm painting I can always see my work at 100% (or any other %) on the side.

I'm sure Pixelmator used to have a Navigator window, it's been in Photoshop since something like v3?!

Pixelmator didn't have a window like this, but it is on the cards for Pixelmator Pro, possibly in one of the updates in the more immediate future.

Why make this just a preview window. You should be able to open a second view of the same document, and scroll/zoom edit, the same as you can in the first.

Ditto. I just realized this today after searching for it. I have a 24' QHD display tablet and a 27" 4K monitor -- I use Affinity Designer and ClipStudioPro EX -- and both those have an option to open a second view window (Affinity actually does it better coz it updates both windows in REAL time, where CSP only updates the other window at the end of each stroke). This is a feature that we need in PixelmatorPro (which I am using) -- as Pixelmator's UI is just so nice n' clean -- and the app opens faster than the others... it's my go-to (as well as my sons') for a quick sketch.
