I'm wondering if Pixelmator supports files with embedded vector paths? I've tried opening jpg, tiff and PSD that have 2 paths but I can't really find them in the program.

Unfortunately just SVG will work. Pixelmator will rasterise even to PDF and PSD unlike Affinity Designer for example.
