As the title says, every rectangle I place has rounded corners. I can't place a non-rounded (i.e. square) rectangle. Even with 0 radius on each corner, the corners are rounded. Insert > Rectangle inserts a Rounded Rectangle. I do not want a rounded rectangle. Please, help.

You need to use color filled shapes as Pixelmator Pro don´t have the ability to draw sharp corners:
Draw 2 rectangles with even amount of pixels in size placed at whole pixels like Size=400x400px, Position=X:644px,Y:390px and a second like Size=412x412px, Position=X:638px,Y:384px. The placement is crucial as you will get Anti Aliased edges otherwise.
Then go Format->Shape->Subtract Shapes which will give a 6px frame with sharp corners:

Why not just use the rectangular select tool and then convert it to a shape?

Because the stroke it adds will have rounded corners again. The coloured fill shape only will have sharp corners but not one with a stroke only.

I may have misunderstood; I saw nothing about strokes - she just said rectangles. I was thinking - without any other details - why not a conversion of a rectangular selection converted to a shape - no rounded corners - with an INSIDE stroke of the desired width. In my many years of programming, one of my favorite lessons was "There's more than one way to do it."
