Imagesize/Canvas size

I am trying to produce a file with the image size smaller than the canvas size. But when I change the canvas size the image size also changes to exactly the same dimensions. And when I change the image size the canvas size changes to the same dimensions. Is there some command I should be checking to stop this from happening?

Hi Lynton! Image > Canvas Size only resizes your canvas boundries, whereas Image > Image Size resizes your entire project all at once. Instead of downscaling your image, try going to Image > Canvas Size and making the canvas larger. You can also get the same result by expanding your canvas using the Crop tool.
