When I place a layer mask over my image, choose Format>Mask>Edit Mask, select the Paint tool, and paint on the mask with black paint, the paint doesn't show—except on the tiny mask on the sidebar. I still see the entire image that I am trying to create a mask for. I need to know how to make the paint visible. I've tried everything I can think of, and nothing works.

Hi Roberta, you can use the Select and Mask tool to see your mask as an overlay. A pre-existing mask can also be edited with the Select and Mask tool by going to Format > Mask > Refine Mask... . Hope this helps!

Thank you! Using the Select and Mask tool is the solution to my problem, and I never would have discovered it on my own.
