For me core ml 3, machine learning 3 the next iteration of swift and an app which brings pixelmator pro to iOS... Oh, a sneak peak of the the new Mac pro. Is there room for a better machine learning?

I'm in the market for a new laptop; I'm currently using an old and underpowered 12" MacBook that has developed an odd rattle and gets really slow on complex images. As much as I want the screen of the 15" MacBook Pro, the laptop itself is a bit big for me (and it's *really* expensive).
I'm hoping for smaller screen bezels so that the 13" MacBook Pro gets a bigger screen without a size increase. Also hoping for faster onboard graphics and cheaper memory/flash drive options.
I've not been watching the smoke signals so I really hope the Macbook Pro is due a refresh.

I feel your pain although there were rumours of a refresh I can't see that happen because they updated the MacBook Pro line last autumn. I guess you have to be wait a bit longer. It's expensive that's true but I think the iMac isn't that expensive compared to a PC with similar specs. You can't use the MacBook for traveling and the iMac for work?

I tend to work on the move a lot so I've been laptop-only for quite a few years now. This is one of the reasons why I like the single-interface of Pixelmator Pro so much. Maximise the window, shrink the layers panel to its smallest extent (sometimes I wish it would go smaller), use ⌥T to show/hide to tools sidebar and I get an appreciable bit of screen real-estate back (compared or Classic Pixelmator). This also explains why I lust after the 15" MacBook on a regular basis until I remind myself of the weight and the size it takes up in a bag.

..but more about WWDC, I'd love to see Photos gain some functionality that allows it to be used more strongly with external apps. It's a bit of a change in its core mission but I'd love for it to become a repository for image files, even those that it can't edit itself. So, an image created with Pixelmator Pro (whether it started life as a photograph or not) could live in the photos database alongside its Pixelmator Pro file. That way, once I find the final image from a project, I've already found the project files used to create it too.

Hehe. Integration nightmares? Or just not a fan of Photos?

I guess that means, we have already thought of this and it's on our roadmap, you just revealed it :-)

It's all good. You're quite close to something we'd like to add, it's not really to do with WWDC, though.

actually you were right. New MacBook pros archived today but they are really expensive especially with a 32gb ram upgrade. It's really redicous that you have to pay 420 euros more for an additional 16 GB.

Yes and no. I was hoping for a the next generation MacBook. I'm fairly certain that what we got was a speed-bump across the board and maybe a new top-end processor for the 15".

that's true it was a speed bump. A redesign could come maybe next big year but if you consider the history of redesigns it comes likely in two to three years. The question would be how urgent you need a new computer?

I've a lot of affection for my old MacBook and can squeeze more life out of it by single-tasking when I'm doing anything complex (and carrying an external battery when I'm out and about). Unless it dies or I have a project that I *really* can't do in 8GB, it's more a desire than a need and that can wait.

that's good. Desires are not a need that's true. I would wait, too. Maybe in three years time the MacBook Pro will be equipped with an a16 processor....

You really nailed it! Just read the comment again. I haven't used photos really but after that sneak peak of 1.4 it sank in. I could create project folders in photos and have the power of Pix Pro at my fingertips. To merge Photos and Pix Pro is just awesome I haven't really thought of this much.

A question to Andrius:
What would the Pixelmator team love to see how Apple could improve photos and Pix Pro can make use of it?

I watched a summary of WWDC this morning. Lists of good stuff. Sidecar in macOS Catalina looks particularly interesting. I wonder how much work it would be to bring Sidecar support to Pixelmator Pro. 🤔

That would be be great. Using the Apple pencil withbpix pro. I am also curious about how they use the new swift language to speed up development
and performance?

Regarding ML 3. I found some tutorials on the Apple website:
https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2019/209

And
https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2019/704.

How could they implement the vision framework?

Ah well... that'll have to wait until I upgrade. I did ponder buying an iMac the other day as a stopgap.

nice, which one do you prefer? The 27 inch with upgradable Ram? Do you adopting to a different work flow?

I'm not sure. Depends how much I commit to working at a desk again. Either one is a big upgrade in screen real-estate. The Mac Mini is also an option. We shall see.

That's true the Mac mini would also be a good option. Good luck with it

I realised that Appleinsider did a buying guide Imac vs mac mini 2018, of course that applies also mostly to the 2019 imac.

It was helpful, thanks. I've realised that I'm happy to reduce my specs (and therefore price) if I get a Mac Mini so that's the choice for me.
Ironically, within hours of making that decision, I read this: https://www.macrumors.com/2019/06/13/ap ... -database/
Oh look... it's that MacBook Pro refresh I was waiting for... maybe.
