Could someone please help, am I missing something?

I have downloaded the trail version of Pixelmator and am happy with everything (it is very similar to Photoshop CS6).

But when I try to fill a selected area or colour I cannot find how to fill with custom pattern.

On the pro version it is there insert/effects/fill/pattern.

I like the format that the standard version is in because its very similar to Photoshop CS6.

Hi Rob123.

I don't think that Classic Pixelmator has a pattern fill. There are still ways to achieve the effect, though.

If you create your pattern on one layer and have the object you want to fill on another you can use either Mask or Clippling Mask.

Mask
1. Use your preferred selection tool to select your shape.
2. In the layers pallette, right click on your pattern layer and select 'Add Mask'.
A mask will be created in the shape of the selection.

Clipping Mask.
1. Put the layer with the pattern above the shape to be filled.
2. In the layers pallette, right-click on the pattern layer and select 'Create Clipping Mask'.
The lower layer will hold transparency information and the upper RGB info.

Hope this helps.

Weird, man. Just weird.

You guys had this convo right when I was researching the topic. Like, 3 minutes after st3f posted the answer.

I used Clipping Mask. Worked like a charm. Even learned I could move the background image around.

Check it out...
