Old PXM Files not opening

I just purchased Pixelmator Pro 2.1.3 Coral.
I have many old pxm files from maybe 10 years ago.
The new pro version will not open them up.

I get the error:


It says, The document couldn't be opened.
The document is damaged, or isn't compatible with Pixelmator Pro 2.1.3.

Thank you for any advice on resolving my problem.

Can you open it with Pixelmator classic? If it doesn’t open with that it probably is corrupted. But re-saving it in classic may save it and Pro should open it.

I do not have classic any more. System crash a few years back and it is gone.
That is why I went and bought the new pro version.

If you had Pixelmator classic you can go to the Apple App Store and get it again. Download it and try it. Anything you have bought in the App Store, you can always download a new copy even after, especially after a system problem. Right now I have notifications on my iMac screen telling me that updates are available for apps I have bought. Don't you get update notifications or visit the App store for updates?

Herb, don't give up yet. I'm just a user like you. The pixelmator team is very helpful; maybe they can help further. When you said "their website", does that mean you didn't buy it in the App Store? You should not have had to "re-purchase" Pixelmator Classic again.

And mccoytest is right, by the way, if you purchased Pixelmator Classic from the Mac App Store, you should be able to redownload it for free, unless you've changed your Apple ID or App Store region since the purchase.

Hi, I like the Classic it seems to have more tools than the Pro.
Plus I know my way around better on the Classic. Im lost with the
Pro even after watching the tutorials on Youtube. I had the Classic
on my laptop years ago, its still there its gray and wont open.
I still have the product code keys.

What can I do, to have the Classic on on my desktop iMac 11.6? I tried to
do a work around to transfer it but that wont work. Im not happy with
the Pixelmator Pro Trial. Why ya'll missed up a good thing. I dont want
to be married to PhotoShop for life. I want to buy the Classic again?
Come on guys comprise with more tools.

That's probably just first impressions, to be honest. Pixelmator Pro has a considerably broader feature set compared to Pixelmator Classic but I can understand the sentiment for Pixelmator Classic, too! Drop us a line at [email protected] and we'll share a copy with you. Just bear in mind that Pixelmator Classic is no longer being actively updated, so if you'd be happy to see some new features added from time to time, Pixelmator Pro is your best bet.
