Content-Aware Scaling

What features would you like to see in Pixelmator Pro?

I read that you use content-aware scaling for some back-end tasks, but the scaling itself is not seemingly available. Could it be added as a resizing algorithm? Although maybe it would require changing the radio button to a drop-down list to keep the interface tidy.

Hey, Arekkz. I believe you have ML Super Resolution in mind? If you're running macOS Mojave or later, it should be available in the Image Size menu below the Bilinear, Lanczos, and Nearest Neighbor algorithms.

I think Arekkz is referring to how you can resize an image by dragging the handlebars (e.g horizontally squeeze or vertically squeeze) a photo, while the algorithm figures out what to remove and keep. This is not ML Super Resolution.

Go check this video (around 01:00 it gets demonstrated):

I would be really happy to see this in Pixelmator.

Thanks for the clarification – I've shared this suggestion with the rest of the team!

This also exists in Photopea (https://www.photopea.com/) via Edit > Content-Aware Scale. Would really love to have this feature in Pixelmator, especially since I have more faith in its developers doing it well.

Thanks for the pointer, spex. That's an interesting idea! I'll pass it on to the team.

I came on here to post this same request. For example, I do work for an art gallery and they need all their flyers in at least 2 sizes - some are printed, A4 A5, then others go out on different social media platforms (the usual suspects). There are standard web sizes but they’re not what they want…

Would be a useful feature.

Oh and I agree with the comment about Pixelmator devs doing it well…

Hi Spydeee, I've added your +1 for this feature. I can't say that it's likely to be added particularly soon, but we'll keep it in mind for the future!

Yes, this would be a great feature for Pixelmator to add! I am in need of it today!

+1 - Would be nice. I did a manual convert of a 5x7 to a larger 8x10 and had to create some new background manually.

+1 - Would also love this feature! Miss it a lot from Photoshop.
