Hi everyone! First post here so apologies if this edit is simple (been using Canva for 2 years, very new to Pixelmator Pro).

I just watched the "Instant Photo Pop-Out Effect" tutorial (https://youtu.be/RhlxKbTm704) and although I get the steps, it's done by creating your own photo frame (the 2 white rectangles).

What if I have an existing image of a laptop (screenshot: https://cln.sh/bPQMS7), and I wanted to have an icon or something pop out of the laptop in the same way?

Basically have part of the icon behind 1 side of the laptop bezel "frame", and another part of the icon on top to create some depth.

Appreciate any insights!

@JodaJacksoncatrina are you really talking about Pixelmator Pro or Apple´s Motion.app probably?

Thanks @ JodaJacksoncatrina for the reply! I am - as EllenM has noted - talking about Pixelmator Pro though 😅

Hi there! The principle is pretty much the same here - layer masks will be doing all the heavy lifting. How I'd go about this is to add your logo as a new layer on top of the laptop image, resize and position your logo as desired, and add a layer mask to it. Then, select the layer mask and using the Paint tool with the color set to black, paint in the areas of the logo that you wish to hide, leaving out areas that you'd like to pop out of the laptop. We also made a video tutorial specifically about working with layer masks - it may help you get a deeper understanding of how this workflow works.
