ML Super Resolution gets an update

Our machine learning models practically live a life of their own. For most of our apps, features and improvements have to be worked on for each app separately. But when it comes to ML models, we can include improvements everywhere at once. And that’s what has just happened with ML Super Resolution – the algorithm has been refined to work much better with illustrations and graphics, especially those that include semitransparent areas – and those changes are available in both Pixelmator Pro and Pixelmator Photo as of their most recent updates.

When will this update show up on Pixelmator Pro? Just checked the App Store and it's still at ver 2.1.4 Coral.
Thanks

We're still working on it.
This was added in 2.1.4 – we actually slightly forgot to mention it in the release notes...

You might want to go to https://forums.appleinsider.com/discussion/224320 and mention that it was included in the latest update since AI is not mentioning when or if this enhanced feature is available.

I'm wondering how one contributes test cases to this effort. I have some graphics that I think might be challenging.

Feel free to either share them here (we all check the forum) or you can also send them over to support@pixelmator.com.

Yeah, recently, we've been thinking of removing the ML branding – it's not entirely obvious what it means and it just takes up extra space. If a feature is good, it probably doesn't need a flashy name to make it seem even more flashy. So all the ML naming may well disappear at some point in the future.

In the thousands of images I have used ML Super Resolution for, there has not been a single instance in which I have needed Split Comparison. In every case I have opted to use the resolution-increased, larger image. Knowing what to expect the resized image to look like, I knew beforehand that I was going to prefer it and use it. The split comparison is, for users like me, a wasted step.
It seems to me that MLSR’s split comparison feature makes sense for users who process small and/or distorted images that might not take full advantage of MLSR. I don’t do that.
Is there a way the user can turn off the ML Super Resolution Split Comparison feature and its slider?
This is a niggle, albeit one that annoys me constantly. Overall, your work is fantastic (as if you didn't know).

Hi Jim, thanks for the feedback! There is indeed a way to turn this off – you'll need to use the Terminal app. First, you'll need to open Terminal and paste the following text:
P.S. You'll also probably need to quit and reopen Pixelmator Pro.
Then, just press the Return key. Hope that helps!defaults write com.pixelmatorteam.pixelmator.x enableMLSplitViewComparison -bool false
P.S. You'll also probably need to quit and reopen Pixelmator Pro.
