Hello World!

Believe me, this is the most exciting day after many months of very hard, but fun work. Finally I can announce: Hello world, we are the Pixelmator Team!

I couldn’t wait to let all you wonderful Mac users know about us and work that we have been doing for the past few months. So, let me introduce ourselves.

We are a little Mac software company, called Pixelmator Team. Pixelmator Team was launched by two brothers a few months ago. Actually we launched the project first, then picked a name for our company. For a few months now, we’ve been developing one of the coolest Mac apps ever. We call it Pixelmator. It’s the real-Mac OS X image editing application. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, click here.) For now, I will not talk much about Pixelmator – we have many years ahead for that. Instead, I’ll tell you more about the people behind it: the Pixelmator Team.

Aidas and Saulius

So, my name is Saulius Dailide and I am one of the two brothers that are working in this company. I do business, user interfaces, project management stuff and develop this website. My brother, Aidas Dailide, is Mac OS X programmer. I can objectively say that he is one of the best I’ve ever seen. So, here we are – the Pixelmator Team.

We’ve been using Macs for more than ten years now. Our first Mac was Centris 650 – we enjoyed it so much that we started to study it, and we still are. Using Apple stuff, especially Mac, feels insanely great (you know what I mean). In fact, I just wanted to say that we love Macs and we proud of being part of Mac community. I guess, that’s why we are into Mac software business.

What I did not mention is that we co-founded another Mac software company six years ago. That company is called Jumsoft and is still alive and well. Jumsoft was one of the journeys that brought us to where we are today. It taught us to make Mac apps and to market them (but not how to write blog articles). We learned many exciting things and met many wonderful people at Jumsoft. And I want to say big thanks to Jumsoft and Jumsoft customers who, by purchasing Jumsoft software helped us build our next big thing, that we think is going to be a giga thing.

Pixelmator Team is one of the most magical things in my life and Aidas would definitely agree. We’ve never been happier to wake up in the morning, start our Macs (I use MacBook Pro, while Aidas uses a black MacBook) and start polishing Pixelmator. Imagine every single day you find something very exciting and you make it and the next day you have it all running (I am talking about Pixelmator, of course). That’s the atmosphere at Pixelmator Team and I hope you will feel the same when you run our software.

That’s enough about us for now. If you didn’t find what you are looking for – don’t worry – we’ll be talking about it and the stuff we do very often. If you really can’t wait, check out our company site, our flickr photos or take a sneak peek at Pixelmator – it’s worth it.

Should you have any questions, comments or ideas for our blog don’t hesitate to contact us or just simply join the discussion in our blog comments.

Hello World and stay tuned!

P.S. That is my first blog article ever. Please forgive whatever glitches are in it.

Looks great, guys. Couple of questions:

Any plans to add Fireworks style web slicing?
Can I run it on a Mac with low powered on-board graphics (i.e. Mac Mini)?

    RobH,

    thanks!

    1. We do have plans for web slicing and optimization, but you won’t see it in 1.0 (can’t talk much about that right now)
    2. Yup, it will work with old GPUs, but performance could be not so good. Anyway, Pixelmator runs just fine on Mac mini (Intel GMA 950 graphics processor)

I’m really excited about this, I really need something light but with as many features as possible to edit pictures and do quick stuff without having to load that heavy software we all know. I hope Pixelmator grows to be an essential (and hopefully only) graphic tool I need. One thing I did not find on the specs though is support for vector shapes and/or vector masks. As an icon/interface designer I really need that. Congratulations to the Pixelmator team!

As a photographer, my first and most important question is: When do we see RAW support? I know if it was going to be in v1.0 you would already be touting that feature; that’s okay, as you seem to have packed plenty of other goodies into your first release. But the fact remains that this application, however stellar in other respects, will be of no interest to me personally until I can use it to manipulate the RAW format.

    Exciting app!
Just hope it will remain light enough (adding essential graphic tools only, like vector ones).

Will you also be developing Vectormator and Pagemator?

    >> Vectormator and Pagemator?

Better yet would be something like Freehand, which did both functions in one environment…

Wow, the app I’ve been waiting for. Since the start of OS X I’ve asked me, when will somebody use the technologie from OS X to build a PS Killer. Looks great! 🙂

Hi, apps looks fantastic! I have some questions:

    1. Who designs your icons? they’re lush
    2. Is the app ready for resolution independence?
    3. Are you using the standard core image sharpen & smart sharpen filters? They are useless!

    regards!

Great app! Add pictures as layers from iSight camera firewire input/output will be in giga thing, it will be more awesome for camera movement while laptop sit.

looks really exciting — i noticed there’s nothing on tech specs about adjusting curves for images or kerning/leading/ligatures for text. will those options be available? if so, consider me converted!

    Saulius and Aidas,
I salute you sense of entrepreneurship and I admire your passion and drive to put this together in a matter of months. Thanks for the great work and for contributing to the incredible experience that Mac OS X offers…
You guys are the best… I would like to write a review article of pixelmator at http://www.mostofmymac.com. Would you have any beta release that I can test?

    Looks wonderfull..when can we buy?

Promising! I notice, though, that Jumsoft isn’t particularly well-regarded as a company (eg http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/24325) – I hope you try harder on non-tech stuff (like emailing customers, etc) than you apparently have done till now… So don’t forget the support, guys!

I would have to say that Pixelmator is probably one of the most beautiful applications I’ve ever seen. I surely hope that app works as beautiful as it looks!

Great – I should certainly pronounce, impressed with your site. I had no trouble navigating through all the tabs and related information ended up being truly simple to do to access. I recently found what I hoped for before you know it in the least. Reasonably unusual. Is likely to appreciate it for those who add forums or something, web site theme . a tones way for your client to communicate. Excellent task..
