Adds Noise Filter and Introduces a Learning Website and a New User Manual
The Pixelmator Team released Pixelmator 1.4.1 today, an update to the revolutionary GPU-powered image editing tool that provides everything needed to create, edit, and enhance still images. Available as a free software update, Pixelmator 1.4.1 features a noise filter, improvements, and bug fixes. The Pixelmator Team is also introducing a new learning website and a new user manual for Pixelmator users.
“Tens of thousands of Mac users have fallen in love with Pixelmator,” said Saulius Dailide of the Pixelmator Team. “With the new learning website and manual, the Pixelmator Team continues to demonstrate its commitment to Pixelmator quality and attentiveness to the needs of its users.”
Pixelmator 1.4.1 introduces a noise filter, which allows the artist to quickly apply random pixels to an image. This allows users to create realistic textures and special effects and provides advanced retouching capabilities. The current update also offers minor user interface and performance improvements as well as bug fixes to the application.
The Pixelmator Team is also launching a new learning website for Pixelmator users. This new website (www.pixelmator.com/learn/) is all about learning how to use Pixelmator. It features helpful text, video, and third-party tutorials, tips, and tricks, as well as practical resources to make the most of the powerful Pixelmator features and tools.
Further, the Pixelmator Team released a new user manual. Fully updated with information about the most recent version of Pixelmator, this manual introduces users to the Pixelmator interface and its powerful features, providing detailed instructions about using Pixelmator tools. The 300-page manual, full of useful information for intermediate as well as for beginning users, is available as a free download at the Pixelmator website (www.pixelmator.com/support/documentation/).
Pixelmator 1.4.1 is a free update for current Pixelmator users.

If we desire to send you our tutorials. What is the avenue and is there any pre-formating we should do on our part before submission? Preferred Screenshot sizes, step tagging etc…

Wooster,
we post links to your tutorials so you can do whatever you like. Just please let us know once it is available for public read.

Will we see a web-save feature added to Pixelmator soon? Just checking. Right now I have to open Acorn or Picasa for that, and I’d rather stay in one application.

Matt,
From what I know, version 1.5 will do that, maybe I am wrong.

Thank you very much for making life easier with pixelmator (almost for me).

Thanks for this great software!
I’m enjoying a lot using it! What I’m lacking is a panel showing the zoom factor (likewise Photoshop).
SInce I use it to do iPhone development, it would be also great to have some pixelmator’s templates, (i.e. buttons, fonts, etc).
Keep up the good work!

I just need groups in the layers palette, it’s my final barrier to receiving colleagues PSDs. Please tell me this is coming soon!

Andy,
groups are definitely coming.

Nice work guys, good to see you’re putting so much effort into documentation and tutorials, often a key element for software success.
Still waiting for slicing and save for web, but I guess it’s coming.
Keep up the good work!

Always good to open pixelmator and see an update to download and play with
Thanks for the continual work and updates. Now… To make some noise.

Great update and nice tutorials. You’re on the right track, a few more features and it will be a definite photoshop replacement for me

hello!
you haven’t fixed important bugs that were present in previous versions:
-key shortcuts don’t work in Russian keyb. layout
-when you draw with a pencil size 1×1, zoom to 800% and make a line from one pixel to the next. The next pixel is not drawn even when the cursor is 100% over it. Makes pixelmator useless for pixelart.
-compatibility with geforce 9400M – still unbearably slow on my second unibody MacBook.
April 23rd, 2009 at 7:18 pm
Actually the 9400M is a worry is that true? I’m aiming to upgrade to a unibody or new version white macbook but don’t want to see a performance hit unless it’s upwards. Has anyone else replicated this?

Oops forgot to mention: new pixelmator doodles:

and more stuff on the blog at kercal-dot-wibsite-dot-com if’n anyone’s interested.

look at the forum. All users complaining about ‘drawing lag’ and slow performance have gf9400M
It’s not slow on this card – that’s a wrong word. It’s UNUSABLE.

Hmm.. When I click on the button to check for a newer version, it says I’m up to date and my v1.3.3 is the current version.
Downloaded 1.4.1 manually.

Thanks for the update and once again for this awesome app :]
I’m no longer using this space and cpu consuming Photoshop app since you released Pixelmator.
That’s saves me time and money :]
Oh, and that idea of e-learning is cool!
Cheers guys,

I guess the Tiger version doesn’t recognize that there’s an update… Had to manually DL it like x-f.
April 28th, 2009 at 9:52 pm
guys, info box… how many pixels are selected for crop and selection area and the position of the cursor.
thats a MUST and its soooo simple for you to build in.
just release a quick bugfix… that would make soooo many people happy – you can read it all over the web – its the only feature pixelmator is completely missing.
thanks!

Статья понравилась! Этакий короткий микс полезных знаний. Хоть и “зажгли лампу среди бела дня”:)

I agree with Jim. The Momentous Drawing Lag makes this program absolutely UNUSABLE. I don’t care if it takes 5 minutes to start up, as long as it draws smoothly. I’m so glad I didn’t buy it immediately like I was going to.
Also, no Zoom Level Indicator? That’s like MSPaint level basic. Yeah, and here I was ready to fall in love with this program.
If these two things are fixed, I’ll get Pixelmator tattooed on my EYES.
