Thinking of buying Pixelmator – we need to be able to swap eyes over if one person has eyes shut in group photo – so question is – can you clone from one photo and paste that onto another photo??? Thanks

  2. Ali Mottram

PS I don’t mean cutting and pasting with lasso – but using clone from one photo to another – hope that clarifies!

  3. RODEO

I tried using the clone tool a few times. I have had pixelmater for two years and just now figured out how to open an image and not have it zoomed to the point that I couldn;t make out the picture. Needless to say, I am floundering with it. I clicked on the clone stamp, then went to my area and clicked again. Then I went to the areas I wanted to fill in and clicked them. Nothing happended. In fact, I had a second curser or something to that effect showing at the same time I was trying to get it to so something. Any suggestions out there?

  4. Ausra

    Rodeo,

Second pointer indicates what area is being cloned.

  5. Babs

I’m having similar issues as Rodeo. When I first open Pixelmator the Clone stamp works the first time I use it. When I try to change to a different area the crosshairs don’t show up, but an x does a full inch or more away. I guess I have an older version, because I can’t seem to find the “clone source button” to be able to move to a different area. Help!

  6. Ausra

@Babs, press the Option key on your keyboard to redefine the cloning source area.

  7. RODEO

I understand that the area being clooned and the area that you are cloning are on the screen. The problem I am running into is that I choose an area to clone with the cross hairs looking pointer it does it but, as I am cloning, it follows my path and if the color changes, so does my clone stamp. I can’t seem to get it to stay on the color I selected while I try to do some cloning.

  8. Tim

This program is so frustrating. I am having the same problem as Rodeo. I define the area that I want to clone, no problem. Then I click on the area where I want the image to be cloned and nothing happens. I have tried everything to get it to work and it just…doesn’t.

  9. Noah

Can you tell me where to find the image from the tutorial? Would really much like to use it as wallpaper 🙂

    Thanks
    /Noah

  10. Ausra

@RODEO, the Clone Stamp Tool is designed to work that way. If it’s a particular area you want to copy, I’d suggest selecting it with any of the selection tools and paste it into your composition.

@ Tim have you check the Brush Settings? Is the a default brush preset selected?

@Noah, many of the images used in tutorials are available on the largest stock image websites.

  11. Wren

Excited to try this and perhaps switch from Photoshop (been using that, self-taught, for years but I’ve switched to Mac recently and PS crashes sometimes).

Anyway, I started working with your clone stamp but cannot find where I go to adjust the SIZE of my cloning tool. I’m used to being able to make my area selected for cloning from and the area selected to be cloned TO to be able to be as tiny as 1 pixel or as large as over a hundred pixels in size. Can Pixelmator do this, too? I’m guessing so, but just can’t find it.

Also, how do I make the tools and text/names a little larger. As it is, they’re all super small so with my fading vision, I’m afraid I’m going to have to put on my reading glasses just to find the little tools w/minor names and directions. LOL!

Looking forward to your help as I go through the trial this month. I have a TON of images for my clients to experiment and learn with. Thanks for your time and attention!

    Wren

  12. Ausra

    Hi Wren,

To adjust the size of the Clone Stamp Tool, bring up the Brushes palette (View > Show Brushes) and pick any brush preset you like or change the brush settings by double-clicking the brush.

As for the videos, have you got any extensions installed in Safari? If you do, can you either update them, or turn them off (Safari > Preferences > Extensions). The videos should work then.

  13. JohnC

I think that I’m experiencing the same problem as Tim, above. I option click on the area I wish to clone, then go to the area I’d like to place the copy. I can see a tiny bit of the object I’m cloning in the paintbrush circle, but clicking and moving the circle does nothing. It’s not pasting. I can do the same operation using Photoshop Elements but it’s a very old, clunky version. I was hoping that Pixelmator would replace it. Am I doing something wrong?

I even tried the operation by plugging in a mouse to my MacBook Pro thinking that the problem was somehow related to the trackpad, but still the cloning didn’t work.

    Thanks for your help.

  14. Ausra

    Hi JohnC,

Which Pixelmator version are you using?

  15. JohnC

Ausra, it’s 2.0.2 which I downloaded from the Mac App Store about a month ago.

  16. Ausra

John, can you email us detailed description of what happens to support@pixelmator.com? Thanks!

  17. Anthony

I’ve just purchased pixelmator and am trying to use the clone stamp. i can use it on a single layer but it won’t work across layers . When i select a source on a different layer to the target layer nothing happens or it copies what is on the target layer not the source layer. is there a way of cloning between layers or different photos?

  18. Anthony

I found the solution in the toolbar drop down menu by clicking sample all layers. it was a little scatty at first but seems to be working now..

  19. Sam

i do not have a clone source button. I seem to lack the buttons on the top of the frame ingeneral

  20. Ausra

    Sam,

Choose View > Show Tool Options to view the options. If you cannot view all of the options, you might need to enlarge the window to view the entire Tool Options bar.

  21. Mike

Is it possible to stamp across two photos? I have a part of one photo I want to copy into another and I’m not sure how to do that. Thanks.

  22. Ausra

    Hi Mike,

The Clone Stamp tool doesn’t work between two image windows.

  23. Marianne

I am trying to use the Clone tool and it stopped working halfway through the project and I can’t seem to get it to work again. Is there anything that you suggest that I do? Otherwise, this has been a great resource!
    Thank you!

  24. Ausra

    Hi Marianne,

Have a look at the Blending mode and the Opacity settings in the Tool Options bar (View > Show Tool Options). Also, check which brush preset you have selected in the Brushes palette (View > Show Brushes).

  25. Gary C

Works as advertised. Good to know about the ‘Sample All Layers’ option.

  26. Andy

Hmmm…..the clone tool is rather cumbersome and difficult to use effectively. Why it clones with a non-adjustable cross hairs about a mile away doesn’t make much sense. In fact it’s bloody frustrating.

Moreover, the function isn’t behaving like in the tutorial video above. Please revamp this tool and allow us to adjust whether the cross hairs should follow the brush or remain at the location where the sample is chosen. As it stands it is just making a mess of my work and letting down what is otherwise a great app.

  27. Ausra

    Hi Andy,

Additional options for the Clone Stamp Tool are under the Action pop-up menu in the Tool Options bar. Also, you can redefine the clone source area by pressing the Option key and clicking the source area.

  28. Darren

This is frustrating beyond belief. Clone stamp tool does not work. I’m using Mountain Lion and just bought Pixelmator through app store (9-8-12). Complete waste of money so far. HELP!!!!!!

  29. Ausra

@Darren, email us to support@pixelmator.com. We’ll take it from there.

  30. javier

    Please:
I would like to clone part of one digital image in a other digital image Can I do it in Pixelmator How?.

  31. Ausra

@javier, you can copy and paste an object from one image to another. Here is text tutorial about it:

A tool that is sorely needed especially for travel photos: a tool to eliminate power and telephone lines. Actually it could be an offshoot of the healing tool.

    Hi Mike,
The Clone Stamp tool doesn’t work between two image windows.

You definitely need to fix this problem! Pixelmator MUST work with two images!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. Emre

Clone function is not working properly . There is a big color difference between the area that I choose and the area that I paint. Very strange behaviour. Any explanation?

  35. Ausra

@Emre, are you cloning to the same layer? Is the layer’s blending mode set to normal? Check the brush preset settings, too.

  36. Liam

I’m having trouble viewing your tutorial videos on your website including the one on cloning? Any suggestions why? The area for serving up videos is black, no player.

  37. alisha

  38. Ausra

@ alisha, email us how and what are your trying to do at support@pixelmator.com, we’ll see how we can help you.
