Hello,

I am unable to save back to iPhoto when using the new Pixelmator (1.5) as iPhoto's "External editor."

Whereas before, selecting "Edit in external editor" would open the original JPEG file allowing me to either ⌘-s or close the window and select the Save button in Pixelmator, this new version seems to treat iPhoto files as a new document.

Can this be fixed, please, or am I seeing things?

Thanks,
Kevin

I'll confirm the problem again. It's very irritating, as I do like the combination of iPhoto with Pixelmator where necessary.

Same problem with Apples Aperture.
Need an urgent update because using Pixelmator as an external editor for Aperure is my main usage of Pixelmator.
Switching back to 1.4 is not an option because I use Snow Leopard ...

Same problem here with iPhoto 8.1 and Pixelmator 1.5 on Mac OS X 10.6.1. iPhoto images open in Pixelmator as new documents and I’m no longer able to just hit cmd-S to save. I have to go back to iPhoto, let it show me the original file in the Finder and drag that file to the Save dialog in Pixelmator.

This is a known issue already for the developers they will address it in one of the updates of the 1.5 branch.

Thanks Sebastian.
Because there is no date published for a corrected version I would like to donwgrade to 1.4. However I can only download 1.5.
Can you make the 1.4 version available for download please? I need to edit photos urgend and can't use 1.5 for that.

Would be nice if this workflow-breaking bug would be fixed soon.

Well, I must say I am disappointed to see exactly how long it's been since I posted this. I expected a workflow from as well as to iPhoto would be a major selling point in a product like this. To leave it broken for so long seriously makes me wonder if I purchased the right application for the job.

Turns out the Pixelmator team was on vacation for the last 3 months.

That explains a lot. As a developer, I can think of some good reasons behind this decision. As a system administrator, I have to tell people with sadness, that Pixelmator is not the best choice for an external editor for iPhoto due to this bug. As a user, I’m somewhat disturbed by the silence and the waiting.

I’m thrilled that Pixelmator has a future and am looking forward to version 1.5.1.

1.5.1 will fix saving back to iPhoto. Just some final glitches to repair and we are done.
