RE: Pixelmator is NO "Photoshop Killer"!

For me Pixelmator is a "Photoshop killer". As devs said it isn't meant to be. But for some of us it is, it depends on what you are doing.

For wat i do Pixelmator is much more faster, reliable and fun to use than Photoshop. And cost much more less.

Thanks Pixelmator team, i really love your work and style.

Pixelmator Exporting Majorly Huge PhotoShop .psd Files?

First off I want to say I absolutely love Pixelmator and want to thank the entire team for their hard work on it. It truly is Image editing for the rest of us.

Now to my question / problem...

I recently found an online service that allows you create dynamic web pages from a .psd file. Of course the reason I love Pixelmator is that it's much more intuitive then Photoshop not to mention it is Snow Leopard native and cheaper and just looks so sexy... The list goes on.

However if I take a very small .psd file from a client and import it into Pixelmator and do what I have to do and then export it back to .psd the file goes from being 55k in Pixelmator to being 13 Meg when the original PSD file was only around 400k in Photoshop. I then have to take this ridiculously over sized .psd file and open it in GIMP and just save it back as a .psd file to bring it back down to around 400k again.

As much as I love this product and I do so much you have no idea but what gives... Am I bent around a tree like a wrecked car or what?

How can a 400k .psd file open up so elegantly in Pixelmator and be saved off in the .pxm format be reduced to 55k and yet the very same 400k .psd file be saved out from Pixelmator in the .psd format and end up over 10 Megabytes every time? And I can then take that very same file, do nothing to it, open it in GIMP, do nothing at all and just do a save as and it is reduced back down to 400k again?

Believe me I am the furthest thing from a Pixelmator hater as you can get, I champion this software everywhere I go and on every forum I am on but there is something so wrong with this picture that before I go ballistic I want to have someone on the Pixelmator Team explain this to me.

Feel free to take this off the forum and just email me at oblocals@gmail.com

I am at a full stop of how a file can be converted to this bloated size and I have to use GIMP to bring it back under control. I ask everyone to test it yourself and see if I am wrong here. I may have just fallen into some kind of mind warping distortion field and just not be aware of it...

Sorry for the hard words and truly an admirer of this product but with this kind of output I have to say something or I am wrong for not doing so in my code of ethics.

Sincerely,

RE: Dodge and burn tools

Wondering what this color dodge and burn was all about . And when I tried it on from reading some other posts , would just put one layer on top of a another and was like why do this . The came this post and , ok there is a reason and , it is very useful . I tried both methods noradnija's and Anton's . Both work great . noradnija's is destructive and you can not go over lap your brush or it will add the effect twice where you overlapped . Now for my opinion : Have not and will not use the other graphic programs , (tried a couple free ones when shopping around) so I can not compare . But from what I have been reading in this forum and all over the internet I am coming to the conclusion that you can do every thing you want in Pixelmator . Yes it no doubt can be improved and features added . But you can do it . Given that time is money , the professionals have a point . But if you grow with one program you will become very profitian at it .

Thank you . Uncluttered is a definite . What if they had a separate pull down and the a different tools pallet would show in place of the default and , you would be able to do a vector drawing on the caves that a person would be doing there other work (no transfer) then when done , clic return to normal and back to default it would be . Just an Idea . What you think I would like to hear your idea or modify this one .
I'm not sure which way would be best. Keeping everything in one app is nice for workflow, but separating things keeps the apps relatively uncluttered.

RE: Open Recent is empty

Hi konicaminolta,

you have probably disabled the system-wide option to show 'recent items'. This can be changed in System Preferences (go to the Appearance pane). This setting affects all Cocoa apps. You can enable it only for Pixelmator by launching Terminal (press command-space and type "terminal") and entering the following command:

Code:

defaults write com.pixelmatorteam.pixelmator NSRecentDocumentsLimit -int 10

(You can paste this 1:1 into Terminal and hit enter. Nothing can go wrong here.)

RE: Contest

As this may be a good idea for the Pixelmator team to consider, I would like to bring up the issue of possible copyright infringement when posting your creations on the public domain (as is this forum).

If you intend on downloading images to use within your creations, then you must ensure that either the images are copyright-free or you have the owners permission.

Having said that, here is a site that I use where you can download free copyright-free images to use.

http://www.sxc.hu/index.phtml

Be sure to read the owners conditions of use. Most have no restrictions, but some ask to be notified if the image is going to be used. (It does not hurt to send them a quick message anyway) and are pleased to know their images are useful.

Happy creations!

You should be able to copy and according to how you've explained it.

Please try the first three steps in this post (above where it says "still having problems")

http://www.pixelmator.com/support/viewtopic.php?t=2904

I am sure that after the first two it should solve it.

If you are still having problems after the third step then post the problem in the bugs section (including whats in your post above). Also mention the steps That I have asked you to do. include the full specs of your mac. (Click on the Apple in the menu bar and select "About this Mac" then click on "more info". This will start up System profiler. You will find the full specs in there.)
