Save and share custom shapes

The Shape tool comes with 200 unique shapes you'll find across a number of different shape collections, including Basic, Activities, Food, Objects, Arches, and more. You can also save shapes and shape collections of your own, share the saved shapes with others, or delete the ones you no longer use.

Save a custom shape
  1. Select the Shape tool by doing one of the following:
    • In the Tools sidebar, select the Shape tool .
    • Press U on your keyboard.
  2. Do any of the following:
    • In the Layers sidebar, find the shape you'd like to save, then drag its thumbnail to the list of shapes in the Tool Options pane.
    • Select a shape in your image, click next to the Collection pop-up menu and choose Add Preset.
    • Click in any shape collection to save the custom shape to that collection.

Note: When you save a custom shape, the shape’s size and rotation are saved, but its style properties aren’t.

Remove a shape preset
  1. Select the Shape tool by doing one of the following:
    • In the Tools sidebar, select the Shape tool .
    • Press U on your keyboard.
  2. In the list of shapes, Control ⌃ – click a shape and choose Remove Shape.
Share a custom shape
  1. Select the Shape tool by doing one of the following:
    • In the Tools sidebar, select the Shape tool .
    • Press U on your keyboard.
  2. Drag and drop a shape from the list of shapes onto the desktop or into a Finder window.
  3. Share the .shapes file with someone else via email or any other way you like.

To share your shapes or vector designs across different image editing apps, you can also export them to the SVG file format.

Share a collection of custom shapes
  1. Select the Shape tool by doing one of the following:
    • In the Tools sidebar, select the Shape tool .
    • Press U on your keyboard.
  2. In the Collection pop-up menu, open the shape collection you'd like to export.
  3. Click next to the Collection pop-up menu and choose Export.
  4. Share the .shapes file with someone else via email or any other way you like.
Share your entire shapes library
  1. Select the Shape tool by doing one of the following:
    • In the Tools sidebar, select the Shape tool .
    • Press U on your keyboard.
  2. Click next to the Collection pop-up menu.
  3. Press and hold the Option ⌥ key, and choose Export All.
  4. Share the .shapes file with someone else via email or any other way you like.
Create a new shape collection
  1. Select the Shape tool by doing one of the following:
    • In the Tools sidebar, select the Shape tool .
    • Press U on your keyboard.
  2. Click next to the Collection pop-up menu and choose New Collection.
Rename a shape collection
  1. Select the Shape tool by doing one of the following:
    • In the Tools sidebar, select the Shape tool .
    • Press U on your keyboard.
  2. In the Collection pop-up menu, open the shape collection you'd like to rename.
  3. Click next to the Collection pop-up and choose Rename to give your collection a name.
Remove a shape collection
  1. Select the Shape tool by doing one of the following:
    • In the Tools sidebar, select the Shape tool .
    • Press U on your keyboard.
  2. In the Collection pop-up menu, open the shape collection you'd like to remove.
  3. Click next to the Collection pop-up and choose Remove.
Reset the shapes library

Resetting the shape presets to default removes any custom shapes and returns all the default shapes that come with Pixelmator Pro.

  1. Select the Shape tool by doing one of the following:
    • In the Tools sidebar, select the Shape tool .
    • Press U on your keyboard.
  2. Click next to the Collection pop-up menu.
  3. Press and hold the Option ⌥ key, and choose Reset All.
