I have imported photos into Apple Photos and wish to open in Pixelmator Pro by way of New From Photos.
But they do not appear.
I wish to use the RAW in Pixelmator Pro

Once you select the photo you'd like to open, you can Shift-click the OK button to open the image in the original format, rather than the format Photos shares by default.

Unless you mean the photos don't load at all in the photo browser, in which case, could you let me know which version of Pixelmator Pro you're using?

Why does the size decrease so much when I bring a raw image into Pixel Pro ? It goes from 25MGS to 500KB when I save as a jpeg?

You're on 1.1? If that's the case, could you email us about this at support@pixelmator.com?

It depends on a few different things — JPEG is a lossy compressed format that supports only 8-bit images, so sizes will always be smaller than RAW, which is an uncompressed format with an extended dynamic range. Basically, there's a lot more information in a RAW file and it isn't compressed at all, whereas JPEGs contain less information and they're compressed as well. Having said that, 500KB is suspiciously small, unless you've resized the image to make it smaller and set the quality at a very low value. Could you check the size (in pixels) of the exported JPEG and let me know what it is?
