Because of the actual recommendation in App Store, I was on my way buying Pixelmator Photo for iPad when realizing that there was another version, called Pixelmator for iOS. Somewhat confused, I stopped buying anything.

Aren‘t they very similar? Will both survive? Any helping hand to understand the differences?

Hi Merlin.

As an occasional user of both (I spend most of my time in Pixelmator Pro for macOS) here's my take: The two apps both handle bitmaps but have different intentions and feature-sets.

Pixelmator for iOS is a pixel-based illustration app that handles multiple layers. You can edit photos with it but it is nowhere near as well featured as Pixelmator Photo in that regard. More info here: https://www.pixelmator.com/ios/

Pixelmator Photo is a single-layer app that can import and apply changes to RAW images. You can't draw with it but it has a wide range of non-destructive tools to fine-tune a photograph. More info here: https://www.pixelmator.com/photo/

Hope this helps.
