Tracing real-life drawings is a great way to practice using the shape tools and get the hang of the incredibly powerful and versatile Pen tool. With this guide, you’ll see just how easy this is. And don’t worry if you think you’re not that great at drawing — once you’ve traced your image, you can easily refine it or even completely transform it.

There are very few tutorials on Pixelmator pro on the Internet.

Please, publish more interesting tutorials, more often, they help newbies a lot.

We're firing up our tutorial-making machine as we speak! We should have one more for you today and, if all goes to plan, at least one weekly tutorial every Thursday from now on.

If you have any suggestions for techniques/effects/etc. you'd like us to cover, feel free to share them. You can post them here or I've also created a requests & suggestions thread to keep them in one place.

P.S. Great job with the illustration!

Aww, thanks! It's so great to see more and more people doing this tutorial — it actually took quite a long time to create.

Yeah great work!

Im currently converting an old logo to vector for practice and I get to the letter A, I do the outline perfect but then I do the hole and they're tvo different paths, anyway to make them the same shape/path, I mark both layers and press "unite" but it doesn't work when I press fill, it still filled the hole!

Hold in a held down alt and did it I think It worked!

Unite actually unites both layers — to make a hole you'd need to use the Subtract mode (the keyboard shortcut for which is the Option key, so you found it ).

Thank you for the tutorial. It would be good to see some more drawing tutorials, if there's a way to show what keys are being pressed, when (e.g., Options key), that would be helpful. It took me a long time to do my curves so I must be doing something wrong!

We tried to make the keyboard shortcuts clear, but they can be tricky to keep track of. Also, when starting out with using the Pen tool, it can take a little while to get the hang of it, but you've clearly got there in the end! Nice work. We'll see what we can do about some more drawing tutorials.

Thanks for all the love, Reggie! Over the past year, the team has worked on and introduced a bunch of improvements to make the vector editing experience even smoother in Pixelmator Pro and we still have stuff in mind for the future. Feedback like this lets us know we're definitely on the right track!
