After nondestructively modifying a photo in iOS Photos, the changed photo appears with the associated badge. This, I presume, means it's connected to the.photo-edit file in my iCloud folder.
If the pictures app still displayed the unedited photo and needed opening pixelmator photo to merge the original with the.photo-edit file, I'd have a better understanding of the physics. But it doesn't; instead, it displays the modified image.
What I'd like to know is whether my original file is saved in iCloud Photos or if it is erased and replaced with a lower-quality export...
After that, the original is preserved in the iCloud folders.
If anyone knows how it works, please explain it to me if it's not too much trouble.
