Pixelmator 2.0.1 and More
I am extremely happy to let you know that Pixelmator 2.0 Chameleon is the most successful release of Pixelmator in our history. People are crazy about it, and it is one of the most successful apps in the Mac App Store in terms of everything: great reviews, massive download numbers, and, obviously, sales. In other words, Pixelmator 2.0 is a hit.
But hey, we just donโt stop here. Today, we are releasing Pixelmator 2.0.1, an update that brings back German, French, and Japanese languages as well as adds quite a few minor improvements and fixes those annoying bugs. Pixelmator 2.0.1 is available immediately as a free update via the Mac App Store.
But there is more. In addition to the whole support website, we also updated our community discussion forums. We added a clean look and feel to the forum websites and removed much of the useless features in them. Feel free to check out the new, easier to use forums or even join them to discuss everything Pixelmator with your buddies. There are many great people out there who are eager to help you get the most out of Pixelmator.
Also, a little hint for the future: we are already working hard on Pixelmator 2.1, whose codename nor any detailed info is not yet available.
So stay tuned for more info about Pixelmator 2.1. And, also, please donโt forget to let us know what you think about the new forums and 2.0.1 update. I am getting back to work to build the best image editing app for the Mac (which automatically means the best in the world).

Excellent news – keep up the good work.
I know you took some flak over the delays in releasing v2.0, but that’s history. This app just keeps getting better and better.
Just don’t mention when 2.1 will be coming out ๐

Yaaataaa!!! Finally :-*
Finally vectors work perfect ๐
Esc works perfect!
Finally I can use Pixelmator 2 like I want ๐
bye bye Photoshop :-*
Rodrigo
Great! Will Spanish be the next language to be added? Pleeease.
Thanks for such a great app!
Daniel
I’m happy to see the palette bug was noticed and fixed, that has been slightly annoying from time to time. I’m also happy that Pixelmator 2 has been so successful, you earned it.
hamsta
I try to stay away from the blog due to troll infestation but for some reason decided to drop by and BAM! Update announced, Cool! Thanks for all your hard work. Look forward to playing with 2.0.1.
Aleksey
Will Pixelmator get russian localization sometime in future?
Sรธren Ladegaard
Hmmm…..seems the crop tool still doens’t work. Can’t set custom size to anything larger than 256.
This is probably one of the most basic tools in a paint package. Why wasn’t that fixed and now you’re not talking about bug fixes but rather version 2.1?
I need to find a way to downgrade to 1.6.7 ASAP.

Spanish Language, please! ๐

Love the improvements! Look and feel of the forums is fresh and clean, and I really like the “preview” of what the thread is about before clicking thru!
One request, please bring back the ability to edit posts! If you mess up some direction, wording, link, picture, you can’t correct it. Please!
Thanks.

Russian language please.
Dear Apple... (@_dearapple)
Please put color boxes back. I don’t like to keep colors in my head.
Darius
@Sรธren Ladegaard
The Crop Tool Custom Constrain values do not represent the size in actual pixels! It sets the Aspect Ratio of the Crop area. For example: 9×10, 90×100 and 180×200 will constrain the Crop area to the identical width and hight proportions.
Darius
@Dear Apple
You can save and collect your colours within the Colors palette (View > Show Colors), simply drag&drop a colour from the preview pane to the Swatch Drawer at the bottom of the palette. There are up to 300 colour wells available in the Swatch Drawer.
Stefano
Please bring back Italian language as soon as possible, next update must have Italian.
Pixelmator rocks!!!!!

@Darius
Pixels or not. It’s still frustrating that you can no longer put in values above 256.
I use the feature when designing websites. If the header/banner image in my site design is eg. 960 x 180 pixels I sometimes take a photo from which I crop the part that I want to use as a banner on my website.
Hence I type in 960 x 180 in the “crop custom” tool and simply drag a selection that covers the parts of the photo that I’d like to use as a banner.
To do that now I have to devide 960 with 256 whichs is 3.75. I then divide 256 with 3.75 which is 68,222222. I can now crop in the ratio 256 x 68 and then resize at the end.
I have to do this math everytime the the size of the banner changes :-/
Yann
@Soren
Or you could, you know, learn fraction and realize that 960/180 = 96/18 and avoid complex (and inaccurate) computations ๐
Alex
@Soren
You can crop to a particular size. Just set constrain to “none” then drag the crop selection to the size you need. A little pop up will show you the height & width of the selection. It’s bit fiddly, but can be done.
Hope this helps.
Best,
Alex
Soren Ladegaard
@Yann: Doh! Why didn’t I think of that? ๐ I’ll try it out. I wonder what happens if the numbers are odd. Eg. 357 x 77 or something. Can I type in 35.7 x 7.7? I’ll try it when I get home from work.
Cheers!

Colors palette only shows currently selected color, I believe what Dear Apple had in mind is ability to see at any time both foreground and background color and be able to quickly switch between them.
I’m big fun of simple and clean things but in this case the removal of the above actually hurts the productivity. I see this as a major drawback on otherwise really good software…
Thank you for your app!

The new forum is about as close to unreadable as you can make it and still retain a color differential between black and tiny gray letters. It seems like every change Pixelmator makes reduces the legibility of both program and forum for anyone with less than 20-20 eyesight. Apparently, that is what the designers like and therefore, user complaints notwithstanding, will not be changed.
However, I’m tired of struggling with a program that just keeps making things worse for me. So good luck with PM. I’m going back to Photoshop, not for the features, most of which I don’t use or need, but for the ugly but clean, clear, easy to see, and easy to customize to MY preferences and usage GUI!

@LilleG : Could not agree more with you’re observations. What we all should understand by now is this Pixelmator team is simply out of their depth in understanding the importance of customer attention and responsiveness. Once you’ve lost a customer it’s terribly difficult to get them back. Too bad the team hasn’t understood the message described in the new Jobs bio ..that “people do judge a book by its cover.”
Team Pixelmator has accomplished pretty much all that can be done to destroy their book cover:
1. Poor customer communications and timeliness
2. Questionable pricing strategies, particularly with the switch to the Apple App Store
3. Arrogance
What comes next is anyone’s guess, but you’re probably making a reasonable decision to explore other products. I’m next.
sirBenski
I was using it for the past couple of days working on making banners with sizes ranging from 50×24 inches and up. At first it was slow to respond but the update made it run more a lot faster. Good update. Thanks and keep them coming!

I started my new business on Pixelmator ๐
I’m really grateful for this amazing soft. I know that Pxm still has a few bugs and isn’t best or better then Ps but I know a future updates will beat Ps and will bring Pxm to the top of all graphic applications ๐
hamsta
@ 21. Jan G – “ability to see at any time both foreground and background color and be able to quickly switch between them.” Yeah, I thought that was strange to remove that but you can still swap between the two with the x key.
hamsta
Okay, I went ahead and redid the Pixelmator 2.x color picker.

What do you think?

Sorry for all the posting but I did want to mention that SketchBook Pro by Autodesk is on sale at the Mac App Store this weekend only at a 66% discount.

I’d like to have Tab -> Hide all palettes back!

Kudos for the update.
But I have to agree that the old site, forums and app interface were MUCH better because they were a much lighter shade of gray. The new black interface and website need to be fixed, and Iโm dead serious. I have yet to see a single person like the current black interface.
Please fix this.

+1
Thin bright text on near black background is eye straining.
And after reading the text lines are burned in to the sight. Then there are stripes on everything else you watch.
There is a reason why inverted screens was finally abandoned ?20 years ago. (eye strain, headaches etc)
Design over function.
Drew
Design is how it works not how it looks Roger!!
Henrik
I seem to be unable to get the 2.0.1 update? I bought PM2 through the appstore but it lists no updates and about PM2 still reads 2.0. What gives?
Mirek2
I wish you were on Linux…
Yuri
Finally
โข Ability to paste very large portions of text
I need this really so much ๐
Merci
MS
please layer style like photoshop have (easy drop shadow, embos etc..)

DESPERATELY waiting for the ability to be able to switch off Lion versioning. It’s wreaking HAVOC on my files and causing untold complications!
gochick
Need this on the iPad any plans for that????
hamsta
@ 39. David
The only problem I had with Lion’s new save functionality was save as being gone. This article helped me with that. Give it a read.

Hi Guys,
I do not care to much of having layer effects in Pixelmator like others do but I would like to see the PSD import filter improved to somehow support something like drop shadows.
Apart from that a very good product and I’m happy to have bought it in instead of any other product. Everyone who ever used Photoshop knows what a great job you guys did (and everyone who used Gimp knows how user friendly your software is designed ๐
David
Layer styles is the only main thing that keeps me from using it. I really wish i wasn’t dependent on Photoshop/Fireworks anymore ๐
Thorsten
App of the Year 2011!
Congratulation!
Steve
Add this:
1. You open image and create another one new file
2. Select move tool and without selecting anything drag background image form first file to new one
3. Now it’s work only in Photoshop and will be awesome have it in Pixelmator
Klaus Major
Hi Steve,
this works here on my side without problems!?
Best

LOVEEEE the new dark interface on the program those who say no one likes it can go jump off a bridge. its 10000000000000000000 times more modern and easier to work with, not to mention gorgeous. the website can br tweaked, but the program is PERFECT

Pixelmator is the most confusing, frustrating illogical software designed by some computer geek for him self to understand. A graphic designer needs easy to use tools and instruction which isnโt scattered.
This software is an exercise in frustration, itโs hell to use.

Hope that the new 2.1 has layer properties. This is actually the only reason I haven’t already bought you amazing app. I’ve tested a demo version and I was just blown away. Really cool UI, really intuitive functions, really handy tools..the only thing that is missing are Layer Properties: they made my day and I can’t really live without them. If you make them possible I’ll definately switch on you boys and will probably let go Photoshop, after a decent period of adapting.
